The Right Instructor
Searching for the right Driving Instructor can be a difficult and confusing thing to do. Very often a "recommendation" is your best way forward but failing that - what to look for?
Fully trained (ADI - Approved Driving Instructor) or Part Qualified (Potential Driving Instructor)?
At EXCEED we have no issues with PDIs but make sure you are aware of your instructor’s status. Ask the question. Part Qualified instructors are just that - they have NOT proved themselves as yet by passing the final ADI exam (ability to teach).
Price.
If you intend to buy on "price" alone remember .......... you get what you pay for! Ask yourself "Why are the lessons SO cheap?" Is the instructor unable to generate work for himself through his/her poor results with his customers? Is he/she unable to keep customers for whatever reason? For comparison think of the cheapest tin of beans you have eaten and compare those to the well known market leader!
What "added value" will you receive from your instructor? - Work sheets? Free "mock testing"? Free "STAY SAFE" assessments post test? Free Highway Code? Progress charts? Free loan of books/CDs/DVDs? Etc. Ask the question. ..... Or will he/she simply turn up, get you to drive round for an hour or so and then leave?................... It happens!
Attitude.
How was the first phone call? Did they even pick up? Was it just the answer phone? Were they interested in your needs or in just trying to sell you a course regardless?
Does he/she dress as if they are just off to the pub or do they actually look professional?
Remember you may be about to hand over a sizeable amount of money, and someone's appearance may indeed reflect abilities and professionalism. Would you expect a teacher or doctor to look as if they were just away to the beach? Does his/her car look presentable? Do they drive/park correctly and within the law? If they are about to teach you how to drive they MUST set an example! It is not "do as I say" but "do as I do!"
Learning to drive can be one of the most stressful and expensive things a person does. It is most certainly NOTHING like it was 20 years ago. It is MUCH harder without question. Ultimately it is of course supremely rewarding both for the candidate and the instructor when that "pass" is achieved.
Parents/Guardians
If you are searching on behalf of your child it is a chilling thought that the biggest cause of death amongst young people is "road death" so it is IMPERATIVE you pick the right instructor.
At EXCEED we are passionate about what we do! We currently do not use any PDIs. We train people not only to pass the test but also for their driving life post test. We are so confident of this that we offer a FREE assessment up to a year after the driving test to check on standards and tweak here and there if necessary*. We offer free Highway Codes to ALL customers and encourage all drivers to keep a copy in their car. We offer 'work sheets' to back up the work done in the lesson and our Instructors keep comprehensive progress charts so that at anytime the candidate can check his/her progress in line with the government recommendations.
We have a sizeable library that any/all customers can draw on to expand their knowledge should they wish to. We provide free use of training aids in terms of CDs or DVDs for Theory revision, and we offer a "help" service if any candidate is struggling.
Also offered is a free "mock test" as part of the driving course and we encourage all candidates who are taking private practice to have their "supervising driver" assessed by us to ENSURE good learning takes place away from the lesson. This is very beneficial for all parties.
We have a permanently manned phone line (daytime) so we are almost always contactable. If you do need to leave a message we will return your call as soon as is practical. All our cars are modern, clean, well serviced and Dual Controlled.
We do all of the above for a fair price.
Try us. You will not be disappointed.
